What changes
Unit 17, memory cell 03003C09 = 03. First-generation Virtual Cockpit only (A3 8V, Q2, TT, A4/A5, Q5, Q7) — on the A3 8Y cluster a3c refuses before writing.
Details
The RS view with the “runway” scale of the first-generation Audi Virtual Cockpit (FPK) is set by one byte of cluster memory. It is written the way factory diagnostics do it: development session, login 20103, WriteMemoryByAddress, then a cluster restart. Before writing, a3c checks that the cluster fits: the part number of unit 17 is a first-generation cockpit (…920 79x or 89x), the cluster opens the development session with login 20103, and the cell holds one of the view values (00, 01, 03). If anything is off, nothing is written. The A3 8Y cluster (8Y0 920 700, MQB37W) has no such cell — the function will refuse here. Conditions: bonnet open, parking brake on, ignition on, engine off, no faults in unit 17. The cluster restarts after writing. On some firmware the boost gauge does not work. To go back — “Standard view of the virtual cockpit”.
Other options
This is one option of the “Instrument cluster view” setting: only one can be active.
