What changes

The rear caliper motors retract the pistons so the pads can be changed. ESP 9 Premium ABS unit.

Details

Factory procedure 'brake pad replacement mode — start' in the MLB Evo ABS unit: RoutineControl 03A1 with parameter 04 00 00 (without it if the unit refuses). a3c waits for the unit to report and closes the routine. The cluster shows a parking brake fault message — that is normal. Afterwards the brake does not work: the car must not be moved until 'pad change mode: end' is done.

Before you start

Takes about 1 min.

  • The car stands on level ground, wheels chocked
  • Selector in P, ignition on, engine off
  • Parking brake applied and then released, pedals not pressed
  • Bonnet open, battery charger connected
  • No active faults in the ABS unit
